Are we immortal?

Well, the answer will depend on who you ask. If you ask science, maybe it can explain it to you as follows:

According to studies

dating back to the beginning of this century, it was believed that aging and death were not related to living cells, whose internal capacity allowed them to multiply indefinitely; But, this was demolished by the scientist Leonard Hayflick in 1961, who observed that living cells, grown in an environment with all the nutrients necessary for their existence and propagation, multiplied up to 50 times before dying. This helps us see that our cells, even with all the care you have, are deadly. The answer of immortality is not then in our cells.

Science has also told us that about 30 percent of the reason we last on this planet depends on genetic factors, which we inherit from our families. Perhaps, this is the explanation of why the descent of the ages occurs after the flood. How can this be explained? Well, there is talk of genetic mutations, which cause loss of information in our DNA. There are countless mutations that occur and are passed from generation to generation. This could happen from Adam and passed on to the following generations. After the flood the population was reduced to eight (8) people, this may be significant for the genetic development of the generations that followed. In my limited knowledge of this matter, I can say that 8 people with their genes and mutations could cause a difference in the ages of subsequent generations.

There are many genetic factors that affect aging and the duration of life, and the processes that they involve, continue to be a true mystery. Although aging could be related to increased susceptibility to internal (i.e. DNA damaging agents) and external (i.e. disease-causing bacteria) stressors due to decreased maintenance , repair and defense systems of the body.

Although it is necessary to mention that a large part of our body is in constant replacement and repair, such as our red blood cells that are replaced in a period of 90 days. I should also mention that there are other parts that do not do it over time, such as the cells of the heart muscle that stop being replaced or restored at birth. We lose many cells from birth, like brain cells, and we can never replace them again. Some of these cells in the nervous system are lost near our central nervous system as we age. This being the case, we are losing our visual, auditory, taste, and so on. What a tragedy, right?

In conclusion, science does not h

ave an answer for immortal life or eternal life, much less to prolong life signific

antly. Where or to whom can we go? We can go where it all started. In the beginning the first man introduced sin, and with it came aging and death. But, a man brought life back, the hope of an immortal or eternal life, as it should have been from the beginning. Meditate on the following texts:

  • 1 Corinthians 15:21

"Because since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man."

  • 1 Corinthians 15:22

"For just as in Adam all die, also in Christ all will be made alive."

  • Romans 5: 12-17

"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so death also spread to all men, because all sinned; …"

There is only one life giver and one redeemer. If we are with Him … as 1 Timothy 1:10 says: "but now it has been manifested by the appearance of our Savior Jesus Christ, who took away death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, .. ." We are immortals!
